This was an exclusive launch, the idokep.hu (communal, informative private weather service) guys launched a special sonde with cameras attached to a styrofoam sphere, with GPS trackers, to film the thunderstorms crossing Hungary.
Before the launch, the guys emailed me, to track the sonde, and send back the weather data I've received with my yagi. Then, with SZGY, we decided, to race with them, and try to get the sonde. After the burst, we've got into the car, and approached the scene, where the signal was the strongest. Fortunately, the Budapest sonde wasn't already launched, just minutes after the final location.
The sonde landed on the stubble, and it was easy to locate it, because of the big white sphere laying on the ground. We didn't have even to turn on the SDR with the yagi. Picked up the stuff, and went back to the car. In approx 15 minutes, a guy from the időkép team came, said hello to each other, talked a bit, and went home safely.
We even couldn't think what would be happened and how we would find the equipment if the sonde would land on the opposite sunflower field
Videos from the GoPro's will be published soon!
